Just how in hell?!

Recent news in Belgium, I forgot which city …but a very very smart mayor has come up with a very very smart idea:

Anybody who is letting his dog out MUST clean up after his dog. Here’s the big question.

I'm so energized

…that I’ve decided to instead create TWO separate blogS – a personal blog where you’ll find my daily blahs and you know what , and a PHOTOblog. I know that I’ve announced 2 months back that this domain is a combination of the two, but I think separating them is much better. One for lovers of photography like myself and one for my friends who do not share the same interest. Fair?

No need to change links unless you’re up to it and add to your link both my photoblog which is my main domain and DAGBOEK, now a subdomain, just like my FOODBLOG.

I’ve also decided to post a preview of my personal entry here each time I have an update, so all you have to do is click “read more” then it’ll take you to the rest of the reading.

Am I confusing you now? I hope not!

HAVE A FAB WEEK EVERYONE!

Shake my hand

handshake3.jpg

“A handshake is a short ritual in which two people grasp their right or left hands, often accompanied by a brief shake of the grasped hands.

The handshake is initiated when the two hands touch, immediately. It is commonly done upon meeting, greeting, parting, offering congratulations, or completing an agreement. Its purpose is to convey trust, balance, and equality. Handshakes possibly originated as a gesture showing that the hand holds no weapon.

In Anglophone countries, men are more likely to shake hands than women, however in business situations it is considered the standard greeting for both sexes. It is considered to be in poor taste to show dominance with too strong a handshake, conversely, too weak a handshake (sometimes referred to as a “limp fish” or “dead fish” handshake) is also considered unseemly.” ~ source: WIKI

I was invited yesterday by a client to join her, family and friends for the Grand Opening of her Filipino store. My husband and I arrived on time and as we walked inside the store, there was already a number filipinos present and it was a welcoming sight. One particular lady has greeted us since she knows us while my client was busy somewhere else and couldn’t be found, but it wasn’t a problem of course so I just waited until she showed up and we greeted each other. She was particularly excited that I showed up because she knew that I am not fond of socializing with many of my own around, I have my reasons.

With the bunch yesterday, I felt most of them though friendly, were shy and a bit timid. I have received plenty of warm smiles, which I also showered around (mind you I do not smile a lot, that’s according to my husband) I was pretty generous yesterday though i wasn’t feeling well.

At one point, I was called by my client to meet someone, a fellow filipina. I extended a hand which is very normal to me when introducing myself. I always give a firm handshake, not a suffocating one but firm that most of the people I shook hands with, have told me that for an asian, my handshake was ‘impressively firm and confident’.

But yesterday I wasn’t only given a dead fish handshake but the person I was being introduced to had, what seemed to me, a trace of disgust on her face and her eyes weren’t even looking at me while uttering a response to me introducing myself: “I don’t know her” (wincing, while looking at the one who was introducing us.) I found that a bit odd of a reaction. I thought that’s the whole point of an introduction, to be introduced. The entire time I was given a frowning face by the other party that also my client didn’t knew how to respond. Since I felt I was given the brush aside by the other party (though I still stood there for about a minute or two..LOSER am I not? ha! ha!) I had to excuse myself and said to the person: “it was nice meeting you“, simple politeness. I was on a friendly state yesterday, I thanked my stars for that! Eye brows didn’t flinch a bit. Good gal!

I knew I took a bath yesterday. Breath might not be fresh but also not offending. I was dressed properly only I towered at 5’9″ (on high heels) amongst the rest of the Filipinos around, I really felt like queen kong! Everyone I was talking to had to tilt their necks up, but it isn’t my fault that I’m tall. Was that one of the problems? I asked myself…. that I had this intimidating look you wouldn’t want to shake my hand? Some women yesterday also said they weren’t talking to me initially because they thought I wasn’t a filipino until they heard me speaking the language. I often get the latter reaction and appreciate their honesty.

But not the english speaking owner of the limpy handshake. She simply didn’t exist after her performance. My way of giving my other cheek.

The Master was my neighbor

The small city where we live is known to be the oldest city in Holland. I live here for almost 10 years now but I’ve learned about something extraordinary only lately. That I walk on the very same streets where Vincent Van Gogh walked on. What you see below, though not the original building but exactly where the bookstore Blussé en Van Braam [boek handel] used to stand was where Vincent Van Gogh worked as an assistant.

At the left side of this building, the city government placed a stone that says:

in this street lived Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890) January – May 1877

It’s crazy how ignorant I was of the city’s history because back in the mid 90′s, the building next to this was where I used to work!

Yep, Vincent was my neighbor!

The face behind the Blog (correction)

I’ve decided to re-write this for a tad of correction (original entry here) for 2 reasons: 1. I found out that the original guideline or steps for this meme somehow got ‘lost’ in the process…which I understand. So many people have been tagged that maybe some have unintentionally edited or shortened the guideline. 2) to be honest I never really enjoyed a meme as much as this one because it gives you the opportunity to see the faces behind different blogs. And make contacts.

But the most important part of the guideline that I wasn’t able to do was to contact David, the meme starter. Thanks to Thomas who left me a comment and instruction, I was able to.

I got tagged by MARIE actually. But the brain behind this meme is David Airey The Face Behind The Blog. It has four steps:

1st step

Post a short blog article that includes a photograph (or a series of photos) showing the face behind your blog. If you already show a photo somewhere on your site (such as in your about page), then make your post more interesting and choose a photo that’s not currently online.

2nd step

Include links to other people that have displayed a photo, or include their photos in your post, adding a reference. Here are the others who have participated so far:

A link back to this post is much appreciated, to help create a more personal community!

3rd step

Tag as many others as you like in your post to spread the meme.

4th step

If you link back to me here and send me an email. I’ll add you to the list above. This isn’t absolutely necessary but it does help me to keep track of the collection (I have an idea or two for an ultimate blogger showcase).

Each person tagged should create their own post and repeat the process.

further reading of what I’ve shared about me, you can find it here

People I’ve tagged::babyrambutan, rose, ironnie, sardonicnell, Sha, chechay and atinna

NOTE: If you feel like doing this meme, please feel free to do so. Just don’t forget to contact David leaving him a line so that he can add you to his list. OR You can also simply leave me a comment and I will add you to my list.

peek a boo!

What do you get when you have a companion who always wants to be in front of the camera? Well, this is what I got! I was aiming at the post (sign) when out of nowhere, there he was! shameless!!

Whenever Charlie sees me holding a camera, he’d get in front (in this case, back) of my target and well…he’s just a willing model. Anyday, anytime, anywhere. But I’m not complaining, I love it when he does that!

Is Charlie SHY?

On the music side, last year I was surprised when I saw and heard this dutch singer performing live on the television. I had to take a closer look because I thought I was seeing things wrong, either his piano was placed higher on the podium or he’s pretty small. It was the latter. He’s pretty unknown then but I guess that performance made him a big man. I mean BIG! Roel Van Velzen is ‘small but terrible!’ I say this with all positive admiration. Click the audio if you want to hear him.

Here’s one from Charlie, to all of you.
