Nov 19th
I had a bit of time (well, taking a pause from work) when I suddenly just grabbed my camera, some ‘little people’ and start taking photos of ‘them’ . Them are actually miniatures display for train set which I bought last year but only used today. You see my husband has this collection of trains and I bought some displays for him. But he isn’t using the miniatures yet so I made them my macro models.
How small were they? I’ll be posting next time another sample from the set.
This is my favorite couple. the bench they were seating on is separate and sitting them on top of it took me few minutes because they’re so light and unsteady. but it’s worth it, I enjoyed playing with them.

I hope I am not offending anybody with this shot. My weekend snapshot entry #7

Happy The Man by John Dryden
Happy the man, and happy he alone,
He who can call today his own:
He who, secure within, can say,
Tomorrow do thy worst, for I have lived today.
Be fair or foul or rain or shine
The joys I have possessed, in spite of fate, are mine.
Not Heaven itself upon the past has power,
But what has been, has been, and I have had my hour.

Girl With A Pearl Earring
Nov 16th
3 years ago I asked my father in law to reproduce his second ” Girl With A Pearl Earring ” by
( by Johannes Vermeer) for me, because I really love to have that painting. He had made a reproduction in the past but has given it away to someone who has no understanding whatsoever of the painting (lucky lucky person indeed!) or who Johannes Vermeer was in the Dutch History.
I am not going to say that I know the whole history behind J. Vermeer because I don’t. But when I saw his paintings at Mauritshuis (Museum in Den Haag) I became an instant Vermeer fan. And before I realize it, my father in law has reproduced his paintings and 2 still hang in his house. But not the one that I want.
Unfortunately, it is still unfinished. My father in law has lost the flexibility of his fingers and could no longer hold his brushes, which frustrates him endlessly. The unfinished painting stands on top of his paint desk and has remained so for the past 2 years. I told my father in law that I still want to have it, finished or not. The important thing is, that he tried to paint it…for me.
Unfinished “Girl With A Pearl Earring” (known as the Mona Lisa of the North)

What Holland is famous for.
Nov 15th

When toursists arrive for the first time in The Netherlands, windwill is what they look for.
This photo was taken last April in Kinderdijk. Kinderdijk is the only place in the world where such an amount of windmills can be found on such a small area. The 19 windmills of Kinderdijk were added to the Unesco World Treasure list in 1997 and have been functional up to the 1950′s. The 19 windmills Can be divided in 4 groups:
- 8 mills of the Nederwaard built in 1738
- 8 mills of the Overwaard built in 1740
- 2 mills of the polder Nieuw-Lekkerland dating from 1761
- 1 mill of the polder Blokweer approximately built in 1521 (burned down in august 1997 and being rebuilt at the moment)
more info:
Because large parts of the Netherlands are reclaimed parts of water, about 70% of the country is below sea level. The impact which this has on the dutch drainage system is enormous. The draining of the country doesn’t take place the natural way, this causes that all the water from rain which falls on the country stays here. So in order to prevent the dutch inhabitants from drowning a large drainage system was formed.
For instance, the drainage system of the Alblasserwaard consist of three level system.
The Alblasserwaard is divided in several sections, called polders which means literally “a piece of land below sea level surrounded by a dike”. Every polder used to have its own windmill which pumped the water one level up, into the so called boezem.
The boezem water is collected at Kinderdijk where it will be pumped up another level by each of the 16 windmills. The water is pumped up into a reservoir.
The water stays in the reservoir until the level meets the average high tide of the river, then the water is discarded onto the river lek which takes it via Rotterdam to the sea. ~ source
Sasha
Nov 15th
My pug Charlie is a very friendly dog. When he’s out walking, he greets everyone..I mean everyone! with enthusiasm and excitement. Though some dogs, small dogs like him do not like his friendly attitude, most of the time they growl at him to scare him away. But one doggy in the hood always remain friendly to Charlie. That’s Sasha.
This is Sasha. I find Sasha such a gentle and friendly dog. She would always welcome my pug’s excited paws (jumping on top of her) with gentle sniffles and never would growl.

Only Sasha lives with another small dog that has an ‘issue’ with my pug, that at times, Sasha has to choose which one she plays with. Which one do you think she chooses?
