One afternoon during our Thailand vacation last year, I left my husband in the hotel (basking under the scorching sun 35C approx, yay!) , packed up may camera and lenses and went to the nearby market. We we’re in Hua Hin, our favorite province in the Southern part, just about 198 kilometers from Bangkok.
I’m quite familiar with the area since I worked and lived there for several years in the 90’s, but unlike my Dutch husband, it wasn’t just the warmth of the sun that I was after during that October vacation but I really wanted to visit all the places that were close to my heart. And well, in most of those places food is involved.
I am going to do a series of entry of my visits….so here’s to start it with. It was around 1pm when I went to the market and it was still early for most Thai people to get their snacks. This lady selling grilled hotdogs and seafood balls was quite early. Early bird do catches the worm, right?
When I was still living there, I must admit those squid balls were one of my favorite snacks…spicy and yummy! Inexpensive as well.
Look at how clean the area was! Well, Thai people are known for their cleanliness too.

more yummy snacks!

It was so nice of her to let me take her photos…

hmm….now I want some hotdogs!!
join me on my next market trip, aye? ;)
Or at least I think I can.
I am referring to food preparation at home. I am far from being called a chef, well unless when I’m at home then I feel like one because I am the only one who cooks our meals.. I always make sure that what I bring out on the table will not only taste good but by just looking at it, ‘would make you taste it immediately.
I guess I love plating. Since I worked in top hotels for years (not as a chef nor anything near that) I got used to seeing beautiful dishes served to clients. That ’s why when I started to self- learn cooking (quite late I might add, just 8 years ago when I gave it a go) I also learned presenting meals in ways that anyone who would try it will not easily forget what they have eaten.
This was the 3rd dish I served last Christmas dinner:
Claridges Chicken Pie which was inspired by the English chef Gordon Ramsay

I might sound that I’m giving my own shoulder some patting, but according to my husband and dad in law who are picky eaters, this was one pretty good. If you want to get the recipe, simply click THIS.
I guess being the cook and photographer at the same time will sometimes take its toll…I was not really satisfied with this photo.
I have been planning on posting our Christmas dinner which I prepared but my timing was always off. Only now that I got the chance so I’ll try to at least post the first two courses on our little menu that evening.
Christmas dinner for me and my little family - that’ll be my husband, my dad in law and I - is important. It has always been just the 3 of us every year so dinner has to be interesting that’s why I always try my best to come up with a special menu each year. This year I consulted Gordon Ramsay’s Secret Cookbook for the first course which was
LANGOUSTINE COCKTAIL , you may find the recipe HERE

and for the second course, I made…
PRAWN CROUSTADE recipe you will find HERE

my husband had to laugh because i wasn’t only a cook but our photographer as well during special dinners like this. But I don’t mind. I love doing both, cooking and taking photos.
well, this is a short entry….MAY YOU ALL HAVE A FINE WEEKEND…GOD BLESS!!
I thought I’d share some food photos I took from last week’s dinner with friends. I really enjoyed taking these photos..and eating some of them too.
Last week, husband and I went out dining with two friends whom we took to Loos Restaurant in Rotterdam. Loos is a cafe-restaurant combination with a business like ambiance since the location is surrounded with offices but the inside look must not be mistaken for a non sense service when it comes to food. I had, and my husband and friends too, the best time. I’m just going to share some of the plates we had.
this was my starter ..all I can remember about it was the duck liver mousse, simply divine.

beef carpaccio with mushroom treated with truffle mayonnaise
my husband’s starter, crab loempia with salmon and basil puree

Op de huid gebakken kabeljauwfilet met tempura van slibtong en een confiture van Spaanse peper”

and this was mine ..quail that was stuffed with don’t laugh now, but I really forgot!! I couldn’t even recall the ingredient but I knew it was with a sort of nuts..and the sauce was with river lobster. It was too much for me, but I almost ate the entire plate because it was so good.

Lamsbout uit de oven op gebakken wilde spinazie en een saus van munt en honing

these were some of what we had. we also had desserts but I decided not to include them here, the photos did not came out well.
I love going out with friends. How I wish my husband and I can do that a lot more.
