Archive for Weekend Snapshot

Our weekend was busy. On Saturday, my husband and I went to the next city to shop for few personal needed items, did our weekly grocery but before that, we worked (office stuff) a bit in the morning too. Sunday, we had to tend our garden infested by snails and slugs. All plants that we both several weeks ago had died so we, rather my husband (who did most of the garden work) had to pull out all the roots, weeds and also chopped over-growing stalks. I did the wash, cleaned the house, cut my father-in-law’s hair and cook a simple meal for us.
Both my husband and dad-in-law love spicy food so I made a simple Thai combination of Pad Thai, chicken satay and made my own sauce. If you’ll be interested for the recipes, here they are: pad thai recipe, chicken satay recipe and peanut satay sauce recipe.

My Pad Thai yesterday was a quick fix, but if you’ll click the recipe link above you’ll find a better version.

I hope you like them too.

Have a great week ahead, dear WS’ers!

Yesterday my husband and I visited an old church, De Grote Kerk (The Big Church), that was built in the 15th century but only was completed in 1627. It was 72 meters high with 274 steps so the climb is estimated to take at least 7 minutes -it took me longer than that yesterday, whew! The church is also leaning, just like the Leaning Tower of Pisa, for about 2.25 meter from the base.

If you look closer, you’ll see the ‘orgel‘ (organ) at the back is not standing straight.

while this is a view from the Church tower, a shame it was foggy and as usual, the sun wasn’t shining …I live in one of those houses. Regards from Holland to you all!

These were some of the quick shots that I was able to take when these two lovely ‘fairies’ were calmly wandering around the shopping center. I almost forgot that I had my camera because I was truly admiring the sound of her HARP!

The fairy who was pulling was an opera singer, actually.fairy2.jpg
After finding the perfect spot they quickly set up and she started to play while the other fairy begin to sing. Wonderful to listen to!

Over the weekend we had activities which I really planned on posting photos for this week’s WS. But at the last minute I decided to rather post my first ever Iris (pic) that bloomed in our garden. As always, the first bloom during spring time is what I’m always waiting for but due to the number of garden snails, I thought we would not have any Irises this year. The past year we scattered powder on the ground to kill the snails and slugs. But no matter how destructive these are, we really don’t want to kill them but just forbid them from leaving eaten plants and flowers behind.

This year’s powder (we’re using a different one, environmentally and pet friendly) seems to be working fine because I don’t see any slime indicating their visit. Rather I saw just a lone snail eating a pit that fell from a plant (this is my other WS entry, by the way)

Here’s my first Iris bloom before the rain almost destroyed it.
