the world from behind her camera
lasting memory of a little friend (075)
*old photo of Gizmo taken in 2007*
This was Gizmo. He was the youngest of all our 3 ferrets. Sadly all 3 of them are now in animal heaven where there is no pain, no worries nor sorrow.
He was never sick during his lifetime. He did not experience the pain of Danielle – the female ferret that died at 6 years old due to cancer, nor Jacob’s, that died at 8 years old, due to a condition. He was playful, smart and funny…and the fattest amongst the 3.
Back in the early 2008, I still remember that dreadful morning when I found him almost lifeless. I was already expecting that day because I was already noticing changes days before. We took him to the animal hospital where we were told that he’s no longer there but what we’re seeing was muscle contraction. His heartbeat was very very weak. The vet offered to put him to sleep immediately. It was the humane thing to do.
It was my 3rd time to witness my pet being euthanized. It wasn’t easy. First needle was given to put them into deep sleep, for them not to feel the 2nd needle. The 2nd needle was always the most painful to witness because it’s brought straight to the heart. It felt like my heart was also punctured 3 times. But like a real ‘mommy’ I had to see that everything was done properly, no matter how difficult it was.
He was cremated and his remain was scattered on a field.
To this day, my husband and I still talk about our 3 ferrets. We still miss their company from time to time.
