I was watching a popular television talk program one day that the topic really got me hooked. They were talking about beauty enhancement in surgical form. I guess I am one of those people who’s not opposed to surgery, or plastic surgery to be exact, because I firmly believe that a person has the right to do whatever she/he wants with the body in order to feel good and look better. I have seen people who went under plastic surgery getting a better life afterwards so who am I to even judge. Only that particular afternoon, the television guests were a bunch of young female, between 16-20 years old wanting to have plastic surgery. Many people in the crowd were opposed to the idea, expert psychologist and surgeons were also in the program to give their views. The teenagers were so keen to have their appearance change that it was hard to listen to them talking about their plans. How would you react if you heard a 17 year old say ” breast lifts in Houston are popular to firm up the chest ” ..I was asking myself, what would a 17 year old girl want ‘firm’ chest’ while her body isn’t fully developed yet? This was the same argument the experts have given to the young ladies but guess what? The girls were not even listening! They all firmly believe that they need the surgery for them to look better.
I feel that if only these girls were fully grown adults of legal age wanting to alter their appearance , they can go right ahead and do what the please. But teenagers who aren’t fully developed yet, pretty and healthy..yet already wanting to change their appearance…now I think that’s sad.
Culprit? fashion magazines! Can you believe that?
